Funding and Bursaries

The NLFES provides financial opportunities to organizations and students who meet the defined criteria for eligibility.

Northern Lights Forest Education Society Partnership Bursary:

Application Deadline: May 1, 2011

Eligibility:

(a) A student who has a minimum three years residency in Alberta immediately prior to application date.

(b) A student entering a fulltime post-secondary program in a forestry    or environmental-related field of study, which leads to a certificate, diploma or degree.

(c) A student who attends or has attended one of the following high schools: Dene Tha Community School (Assumption), Dr. Mary Jackson School (Keg River), Fort Vermilion Public School, Fort Vermilion Learning Store, High Level Public School, High Level Learning Store, Jean Baptiste Sewepagaham School (Fox Lake), John D’or Prairie School, La Crete Public School, La Crete Learning Store, Paddle Prairie School, Rainbow Lake School, Rainbow Lake Learning Store, Rocky Lane School and Sister Gloria School (Garden River).

 OR

(d) A student whose permanent address is within the boundaries of the Northern Lights Forest Education Society but attends or has attended other schools not mentioned in (c) above.

(e) A student whose permanent address is within the boundaries of the Northern Lights Forest Education Society and is currently enrolled in a forestry or environmental-related field of study.

(f) A student who is committed to live and work in northern Alberta for a specified amount of time upon graduation from post-secondary.

(g) A student who has reasonably good prospects for employment in northern Alberta after graduation from post-secondary.

Value of Bursary: 

The amount of the annual bursary will be $1000.00 with $500.00 being contributed from the Northern Lights Forest Education Society and $500.00 being contributed from the Northern Alberta Development and three bursaries will be available each year for a total of $3000.00.
